We all know very well about the importance of eyes; this acts as natural light of the whole body. So we should take care of our eyes very carefully.  In America, more than 4.2 million people who are in the age 40 years and above are either legally blind or are with low vision. So people are facing various types of eye-related health issues. I’m going to explain in detail about various  eye related health issues.

Refractive errors

The most frequent and common eye problem is refractive errors. This eye problem occurs based on various reasons, but mostly this problem is an eye-sight problem. People facing the near sight issue is called myopia, long distance sight issue is called hyperopia and people facing the sight issues at all distances are called astigmatism in medical terms. People who are in the age of 40 and above are facing the presbyopia eyes problem. In this issue, people feel very hard to focus up close and not be able to read the letters in the books.

Refractive errors are easily overcome or cured by wearing eyeglasses, contact lenses or doing some surgery. According to a National Eye Institute report, more than 150 millions of Americans correct their refractive errors and get good eye sight vision.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration

The eye disorder is connected with aging and results in destruction of sharp and central vision. This issue is called age related macular degeneration (AMD). If a person is suffering with AMD, then he/she is not able to see the object clearing and feel very hard to drive. AMD attacks the macula, the central part of the retina in the eyes; there are two types of AMD, one is Wet AMD and another one is dry AMD.

  • Wet AMD: The blood vessels present behind the retina under the macula, are starting fluid leakage and bleeding will damage the central vision rapidly. The straight lines appear wavy as an early symptom for Wet AMD.
  • Dry AMD: Macula present in the eyes will be very thin overtime as part of the aging process, it starts blurring the central visions. Drusen in the eyes is the common early symptoms for dry AMD.

Tiny yellow or white deposits under the retina called drusen. Small drusen does not affect the eyes vision, but large drusen causes eye loss and increases the chances for developing dry AMD. Mostly people who are age 60 and above will affect this health issue.

Cataract

One of the leading causes of vision loss in the United states is cataract. This issue is mainly  clouding of the eye lens, afterwards people lose their vision. World wide so many people lose their eyesight due to this cataract. This clouding is not formed within a few days in the eye lens, it takes more than a year to grow. But people no need to worry about this issue, because so many positive treatments are available to cure this issue. But few people have a lack of awareness about the treatment for this issue.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common eyes problem faced by the diabetes patients, most of the young people are also suffering with DR eyes problem because they are also struggling with diabetic problems. The DR mainly damages the blood vessels of the retina and light sensitive tissue present at the back of the eyes. This light sensitive tissue is needed for good eyes vision

The Diabetic retinopathy progresses through four stages.

  1. Mild non-proliferative retinopathy– This is a very simple issue.
  2. Moderate non-proliferative retinopathy– Blockage occurs in some retinal blood vessels.
  3. Severe non-proliferative retinopathy– Blockage occurs in more retina blood vessels leading to deprived retina from blood supply leading to growing new blood vessels.
  4. Proliferative retinopathy– This is the most advanced stage.

Diabetic retinopathy commonly affects both eyesight. People can reduce the risks of DR in their eyes by controlling the sugar level in bloods and decrease the blood pressure and lipid abnormalities. Taking prevention methods and following the early treatment for DR will surely reduce the risk of vision loss. Delaying to take treatment for DR will surely affect the eye’s health.

Simple tips to avoid eyes health issues

  • People should eat right to protect their sight. Keep their eyes healthy by eating a well-balanced food diet.
  • Give breaks to eyes – Modern people are spending too much time on smart devices, this will lead them into several trouble including eye health issues. So, better to avoid using smart devices for a long time is good for the eyes health.
  • Avoid smoking habit – Smoking habits can put people at risk for serious eye issues, which can lead to blindness. So, better to quit smoking is not only good for eye health, but also good for the whole body. People who want to quit smoking, using generic zyban tablets is the best option.
  • A good body weight can help to stay at a healthy weight, which lowers odds of obesity and related diseases like Type 2 diabetes.
  • Sleep at night – People should sleep in the night time from 10 pm to 5 am. This will surely give a boost to the eyes and help to improve the eyes function.
  • Get regular eye exams – Even if people don’t have any symptoms or eye problems, you should get regular eye exams.
